More than fifty years after humans first set foot on the Moon, NASA is preparing for an even greater challenge: staying there. As the Artemis campaign returns astronauts to the Moon, NASA is building on decades of experience living and working in space to develop the technologies, operations, and infrastructure needed to support longer and more complex missions on the lunar surface.
At NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, teams that have supported astronauts aboard the International Space Station for 25 years are applying that experience to a new era of lunar exploration. From integrating payloads and supporting Artemis missions to developing new technologies and exploring concepts for lunar habitats, their work is helping lay the groundwork for humans to live, work, and conduct science on the Moon.
